The anti-inflammatory drink that a nutritionist recommends drinking before breakfast: natural, easy, cheap and full of benefits

You may have already seen one of their latest innovations on the shelves of Mercadona: a shot of ginger, apple and lemon, which they sell as an anti-inflammatory. But even though it is, it also costs two euros for a tiny bottle. Luckily, nutritionist Natalia Sirvent Prado has on her social networks a very similar anti-inflammatory shot but even more powerful and very easy to make at home with which you will save a lot of money: a ginger and turmeric shot full of benefits.

This drink is anti-inflammatory because it contains, on the one hand, ginger, considered a superfood. It is high in minerals such as iron, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, potassium and zinc, in addition to having vitamins E, C and folic acid. It is good for people with rheumatism and arthritis, and reduces nausea and vomiting in pregnant women, in addition to helping muscle recovery after training and improving menstrual cramps and migraines. But the best thing is that it has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties thanks to the phytosterols it contains.

On the other hand, the drink contains turmeric, a root that we can get in “spice” format in any supermarket that, like ginger, is a powerful antioxidant and natural anti-inflammatory. In this case it is thanks to curcumin, which to increase its absorption, we must combine with piperine, present in black pepper.

To make the anti-inflammatory shot and save the money it costs at Mercadona, we need an orange, a lemon, a good piece of fresh ginger, a tablespoon of turmeric, a pinch of black pepper, half a tablespoon of cinnamon, a tablespoon of honey and two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil, as well as half a cup of water. This makes four shots, which you can easily store in the refrigerator.

Although there are those who add whole, unpeeled citrus, it is not necessary to go through that bad experience to get the benefits, so peel them, removing the white part to prevent bitterness, or add just the juice as Sirvent does. Either option works. You also have to add fresh ginger peeled and then you just have to grind everything well with the rest of the spices and water, and put it in individual jars or in a bottle that you will keep in the refrigerator tightly closed. If you add juice instead of whole pieces, you won't even have to strain it afterwards, so it couldn't be easier.
