Rafael Bueno, hairdresser: “After the shower it is essential to dry fine hair with a hairdryer and move it with your hands so that it has volume and lasts longer”

Wearing hair with body and volume is the dream of many, but when the hair is fine and not too abundant, things get complicated. Hairstyles seem to last less, hair tends to fall out and even freshness and volume seem to last a few hours after washing. But beyond what nature has given us, there is a lot we can do to show off incredible hair, as experts tell us.

The drying trick

If there is an infallible trick that all hair stylists use, it is to work the hair well when drying. Our best tool, without a doubt, is the dryer and it is essential to emphasize the roots of the hair so that it lifts. To do this, there is no way to dry your hair upside down and make movements with your hands so that the hair is looser and more bouncy.

After the shower, it is essential to dry it with a hairdryer so that the hair looks with the appropriate volume and also lasts longer. The ideal is to move the hair with your hands while drying it so that it has movement and appears to be more abundant. If you apply a drying product, try not to give it too much weight, but rather make it light“, suggests Rafael Bueno of Rafael Bueno Peluqueros.

The importance of a good haircut

Another of the fundamental steps that we must take into account is the haircut, since thin or sparse hair should avoid reducing its quantity. Furthermore, as the expert Manuel Mon from Manuel Mon Stylists tells us, we do not have to give up long hair, we just have to give it the best shape so that it gains body and movement. “If you like long hair, you don't have to give up on them if your hair is thin. A midi hair with the strands of the face paraded will not only help to outline and highlight it, they will also give more lightness and movement to the hair. Another trick is to work on the texture, creating a look with waves, with which you will not only look perfect, but your hair will gain in presence.”

And how about bangs?

We already know that bangs are super flattering, but one of the great fears of those who have fine hair is losing volume in their hair. For this reason, the key is to choose bangs that are not too thick but rather light, as Jose Garcia from Jose Garcia Peluqueros explains to us. “We may not resist bangs, but we must know how to cut them so as not to reduce volume. To achieve this, the ideal is for it not to be very compact, but rather light to give volume to the rest of the hair. If we create some waves, do them in the crown area so that when the strands fall they look stronger.”

More volume at the stroke of highlights

A super trick to provide more texture and the effect of more hair is to play with the highlights. Mixing different shades in the same base creates a three-dimensional effect and therefore, much more volume; and without a doubt to achieve this the highlights are perfect like the highlights mousy hair or the highlights bronde which are ideal for brown or darker hair.

“One of the effects to achieve a greater sensation of abundance in the hair is by playing with light and dark contrasts. Alternating several tones in the same hair makes it look fuller. In dark hair, chocolate or copper highlights may be enough, in blondes the combination of browns, sands, gold and even touches of platinum make the hair fiber look thicker.”explains Raquel Saiz from Salón Blue.

Wash hair with volumizing shampoos

There are different products that help hair gain volume and are even capable of thickening the hair fiber and giving the sensation of thicker hair. The first product that we should incorporate into our routine is hair exfoliation and a good volumizing shampoo and accompany it with a conditioner that also provides volume and, if possible, is not heavy, as Gonzalo Zarauza, hairdresser and image consultant, tells us.

“To correct fine hair, there is nothing like incorporating a volumizing shampoo and conditioner. You can also use dry shampoos, as they absorb oil, but give texture and volume. The only thing you should know is that you should not abuse it, since it does not replace frequent washing, but rather space it out. Use a boar bristle brush to work the roots carefully and then brush.”

magic powder

And beyond dry shampoos that are great for refreshing hair and lifting it from the roots, we also find specific products to provide immediate volume. We are referring to volumizing powders that, as Felicitas Ordás from Felicitas Hair tells us, are a very good option to create a density effect. “Volumizing powders were created to give more body to the hair from the roots, thus correcting the feeling of scarcity. It is very easy to apply them, you just have to spread them and create the volume by moving the roots slightly with your fingers and you will see that the effect is immediate.”
