What we like most about makeup is that it is not waterproof at all and we can play with different styles as we please. That's why it is said that there are no rules in makeup, but it is true that when we look for anti-aging results, things change. For example, in the case of the eyes, not everything goes as makeup artist Patricia Carretero recently told us, especially if we are looking for a more open and fresh look.
As time goes by, it is normal for the eyes to lose that shine of youth and the skin in the area to be less smooth and with more wrinkles. Hence, the way we apply makeup must be adjusted to the new circumstances to obtain the best results.
Regarding this, makeup artist Bárbara Martos knows perfectly well that there are clear makeup mistakes that can make you look older immediately. Which means that even if certain ways of applying makeup worked for you years ago, now that may not be the case and the result ends up being heavy and unflattering, especially for mature skin.
Black eye pencil yes or no
One of the most common mistakes is applying black pencil over the water line. We know perfectly well that the black pencil works very well to emphasize the look and give it a lot of prominence, but the bad news is that when we get older, that black pencil that previously looked amazing on us, now only makes the eye smaller, hardens it and does not give it any freshness.
This does not mean that we should banish the black pencil from our toiletry bag, but it does mean that we should use it differently. And even think about other options such as the famous brown pencil that is a great anti-aging ally, and as you age it looks much more elegant and beautiful.
Because we are not going to fool ourselves, knowing how to apply good eyeliner for drooping eyelids can help a lot to define, lift and open your eyes, and that is exactly why makeup is so transformative. But yes, although it has many advantages, the eye pencil applied in the waterline is not always the best choice.
According to the expert, “applying dark eye pencil underneath, you have to be very careful and know how to apply it. If possible, blend it a little, make it subtle; if not, it can make you look older and it won't benefit us.”
Where the black pencil can really help a lot, it is applied flush with the lashes, intensifying the look in a subtle, almost invisible way and creating a flattering effect of fuller lashes.
What happens if you highlight the water line is that the eye immediately becomes smaller, and may even appear more sunken due to the depth provided by the darkness of the pencil. This, instead of providing youth, achieves the opposite, dulling the look and emphasizing the imperfections of the area.
But something that can make the result even worse is the fact that the black pencil applied inside the eye ends up moving and staining the lower eyelid or the area of the dark circle, giving a tired and neglected appearance, very far from a fresh and youthful makeup.
On the other hand, opting for a beige pencil does change the rules of the game when it comes to awakening the eye. When we use a light pencil in the waterline and even to make the tightliningeyes light up, any redness is camouflaged and you look fresh and open.
