Your story - Travel Marlborough
Words & Images Destination Marlborough

With crisp mornings and warm, sunny afternoons, springtime in Marlborough will have you spellbound. We explore where to eat, play and stay.

As new buds form on the region’s vines and fruit trees, spring marks the release of the latest Sauvignon Blanc – the wine that put Marlborough on the map, both locally and internationally, and opened the door for numerous other varieties to shine alongside.

However, the story of wine is only one chapter of the Marlborough tale, with food producers, magical scenery, craft brewers, outdoor adventures and breathtaking wildlife all part of the story.

Nestled at the centre of Aotearoa, it is the connection between the two islands and is a destination that should be approached as an open book. The cellar doors are open and waiting for you to taste glorious Marlborough wine and beer, and the vineyards are bursting with life, while the Marlborough Sounds and seaside towns of Picton and Havelock are your port of call for outdoor adventures, relaxing breaks and all things in between. So what are you waiting for? It is time to write your own Marlborough story.

PLAY

Guided sea kayak tours, epic hike and bike trails, wildlife spotting and more – Marlborough is a haven of adventure, the ideal spot for a foodie, wine aficionado and a nature lover’s paradise.

Let your imagination take flight with a visit to the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre. Aviation nuts will delight in the rare collection of WWI and WWII aircraft and everyone else will appreciate the innovative and creative display that really captures the imagination. Visitors young and old can enjoy a guided tour by knowledgeable, local volunteers through its two exhibitions.

In the Marlborough Sounds, prepare to explore by foot, bike, kayak or boat tour. Jump aboard a cruise with Beachcomber Cruises and explore historical sites such as Captain Cook’s favourite landing site – Ship Cove, and wildlife sanctuaries such as Kaipupu Point and Motuara Island Sanctuary.

Back on the mainland, explore the many cellar doors and discover why Marlborough wine is so iconic. Whether you are a wine aficionado, or just love sharing wine and food with friends, a wine tour of Marlborough wineries is the perfect getaway – be it by bike, car or tour!

Marlborough Wine Tours half and full day tours are the ideal starting point. Tour a variety of wineries, from the big brands to the family-owned gems and taste a selection of the region’s best wines, including Marlborough’s flagship Sauvignon Blanc and world-class Pinot Noir. No need for a sober driver – book in for a wine tour with one of Marlborough’s knowledgeable guides.
