Sonia de Teresa, hairdresser: "To avoid frizz, it is best to dry your hair with your hands, accompanying the movement with the dryer."

Many women suffer from frizzy hair and their appearance is dry, frizzy hair with a very unattractive matte finish. In large part, why this happens is due to a lack of hydration, which is why one of the most basic gestures that will best suit the hair is the use of nourishing and moisturizing treatments such as intensive hair masks.

Even so, there are changes due to age that are reflected in the hair and this requires carrying out some more specific care and not making certain mistakes. According to hair stylist Sonia de Teresa from Luis&Tachi, there are very specific mistakes that make hair frizzy and this is what we can do.

Common mistakes among women who have frizzy hair

As we age, our hair also begins to age, like any other part of our body. But beyond the passage of time and hormonal changes (which play a fundamental role), there are factors such as pollution, solar radiation or exposure of hair to chemicals that do not favor hair health.

Among the personal care to dry the hair and give it shape, is the use of the dryer, which is practically a key element when it comes to showing off beautiful hair. But when it comes to using it, there is a gesture that we have very internalized and that would not precisely be the best for our hair if what we want is to avoid frizz.

According to Sonia, “the most common mistake made by many 60-year-old women with frizzy hair when using the dryer is not so much the device itself, but the way in which we use it.” Among the most common mistakes is placing your head upside down to dry your hair, and although it is true that it is often recommended to add volume from the roots, it also has its cons. For example, if we dry our hair with this technique, it can affect the cuticle, cause frizz and even tangles.

The most advisable thing would be to dry your hair from the roots to the ends, to obtain a shinier, smoother and more polished finish. By applying the air in that direction, the cuticles will not be lifted, so they will remain sealed and the hair will not have that frizzy appearance. “The ideal is to dry your hair with your hands, accompanying the movement of the dryer,” says the stylist.

Another mistake that the expert emphasizes is drying the hair without having previously detangled it. The first step before drying your hair would be to properly detangle it. In this way, breakage and damage to the hair fiber are avoided and it will be easier to maintain hair hydration.

But in addition to all this that we have told you, there is another very common mistake even though there are currently many specific products to protect hair against heat. We talked about not using a heat protectant before using the dryer or any other tool that works with heat. In this way we will protect the hair and we will also be providing it with beneficial ingredients that prevent dehydration, breakage, loss of shine and frizz.
