Sara Duque, stylist, on the perfect purchase this fall: ''A good jacket can completely transform a simple look''

Posted on 25 September 2026

The month of September is a month of beginnings. In the specific case of fashion, it is the ideal time to consider a change of style and introduce key pieces into our wardrobe for autumn (and winter). All of this can be overwhelming in these times, where trends seem to change by the minute.

To stay on track, we asked stylist Sara Duque, an image professional we found at ODA Aesthetic, for advice on one of the key pieces for mid-season and autumn in general: the perfect jacket. ''As an image consultant, I would say that, beyond a jacket combining with the rest of the look, the important thing is that it brings intention to the outfit: you have to look at its structure, the cut, the fabric and, above all, what effect we want to achieve.''

As a lover of basics – and having taken my first steps as a stylist – I agree that a good jacket can lift any look built from simple garments. Sara herself points to this stylistic trick: ''It is advisable to choose it thinking about what we want to enhance, whether it is to stylize the silhouette, add volume, mark the waist or simply give personality to the outfit. If the rest of the garments are basic, a jacket with a special silhouette, a different fabric or some distinctive detail can become the piece that really makes the look have something more.''

But a very common mistake that we sometimes make is choosing the garment without thinking about our lifestyle or without analyzing the rest of our closet. In the end, we end up with something that doesn't represent us or even makes us feel out of place. Therefore, beyond trends, the important thing is to find a jacket that fits our style and our way of dressing. At the end of the day, as the stylist points out, we must feel comfortable with it and not disguised.
