More and more women are concerned about the health and quality of their hair, both in terms of appearance and health. Hair growth and loss is something that worries us, which makes many consider going to the dermatologist to find a solution, and also everything that surrounds hair generates a lot of conversation on social networks. It is clear that hair is an important part of our image and it shows.
The first thing that experts highlight is the importance of having a good hair routine. Many times we go ahead and do not stop to think about how everyday gestures such as washing can influence the health of our hair more than we think.
Simple habits that improve growth
Although we may believe that we have to ally ourselves with the most sophisticated treatments, in reality it is not necessary to follow a complicated routine for hair to improve in many ways.
By avoiding certain mistakes that we make almost every day, things can improve a lot. Washing well is of utmost importance, as is choosing hair products well and not skipping the use of some such as conditioner, or not overusing heat tools, these are just a few gestures that can make a difference.
Don't be afraid to wash your hair, even daily.
There has been a lot of talk in recent years about this fear, but experts are very clear, there is nothing wrong with washing your hair every day, it is even beneficial for many hair types. What is not beneficial is washing your hair infrequently, it does cause hair to fall out more. According to pharmacist and hair expert Katrina Riera, it is important to banish the myth that washing your hair less often also causes less hair loss.
“Washing does not cause hair loss: it simply makes the hair that was already in the shedding phase more visible. Therefore, the frequency must be adapted to the needs of the scalp and hair type, always maintaining adequate hygiene,” explains Riera.
One of the keys when washing your hair is not to use too hot water. Doing so “can irritate the scalp and eliminate part of the lipids that help protect and hydrate the hair fiber, thus promoting dryness, fragility and flaking.” Therefore, the expert's recommendation is to always use warm water.
Another important point that Katrina highlights is, “choosing shampoos or products adapted to each hair need is key to maintaining good hair health,” says the pharmacist.

But if there is a gesture that very few people do and that is going to make a big difference, it is massaging the scalp for at least one minute while you apply the shampoo. This will have a lot of benefit since on the one hand, we will eliminate much better dirt from the scalp such as grease or products that accumulate, and on the other hand, the massage activates microcirculation and follicular oxygenation, which means that the hair will receive a greater supply of nutrients; and it will also be very beneficial to reduce stress due to its relaxing action.
Furthermore, “performing the massage during the application of a treatment shampoo (or after using a lotion) can favor the distribution of the product and the contact of the active ingredients with the scalp,” explains Riera.
It should be done with the fingertips (not the nails) as indicated by the pharmacist and the intensity will be mild to medium to avoid any type of irritation.
In summer we forget about the dryer but it is a mistake
When summer arrives it is very tempting to let your hair dry in the open air, but this seemingly harmless gesture can cause fungus to appear on the scalp. Furthermore, although we know that we should not abuse the dryer, it does help us prevent our hair from breaking as much since when it is wet it is more elastic and less resistant.
Therefore, we must be clear that the dryer or straighteners are not the cause of hair loss. Now, that doesn't mean we should use the dryer like there's no tomorrow and scorch our hair. The key is to dry your hair at a certain distance and at a medium temperature.
