Helena Rodero, pharmacist: “To avoid frizz you cannot go against nature: do not use straighteners, but condition your hair, protect and dry with a diffuser”

Posted on 6 November 2026

fight against frizz and winning the game is not as easy as it seems, but it is not impossible either. It is true that when we see our hair with significant frizz, it crosses our mind to use straighteners so that our hair looks polished again, without unwanted volume and with shine. However, although this gesture can improve its appearance immediately, the truth is that abusing heat tools is not exactly what benefits our hair the most.

This is how pharmacist Helena Rodero explained it clearly. As an example, the professional talks about wavy hair with a lot of frizz. If we use straighteners or curling irons “we would damage it more and in the long run it would have more frizz,” says the hair expert.

For frizzy and wavy hair, “in addition to drying it with a diffuser, I advise using some previous products to further protect the fiber and make it stronger and even fix it and prevent frizz,” recommends Rodero.

The correct routine that the pharmacist recommends for this case does not differ much from that of any other hair, so anyone who suffers from frizz can benefit from these professional tips.

The first thing is to wash your hair with a shampoo appropriate to each person's needs, and yes, as Helena always recommends, focus on washing the scalp well. Once the hair is well washed, “with wet but not soaked hair, use a conditioner from the mid-lengths to the ends and try to brush it. Wait a couple of minutes for it to settle,” explains the professional.

The next thing would be to go for a product that protects hair from heat. Rodero specifically recommends two products Tame Game by Keune or Dream Coat by Color Wow. After applying the product “you are going to use the diffuser and use it without moving it, and always at medium temperature and at the lowest possible speed,” recommends Rodero. Finally, we can apply a hair oil that, in addition to enhancing shine and softening the hair, will also help control frizz.
