Cristina Lobato, makeup artist: "To lift a drooping eyelid, always apply the brightest shadow color to the mobile eyelid."

How many times have we heard and said that “I have droopy eyes and I don't know how to put on makeup”. Surely many. For this reason, today we wanted to go a little further and look for the keys with which to achieve a great look that gives us back all the light that we seem to be missing in our eyes, the one that has now become more important than ever.

To do this, we wanted to count on the invaluable help of the makeup artist Cristina Lobato who has given her expert opinion.

The first thing Cristina explains is that although we have that sensation, the eyes as such are not drooping. “If we take the tear duct as a reference and join it with the end of the eye, it is in a straight line at a horizontal angle, it is never ascending or descending. What is really drooping is the eyelid and not the eyes”

And that's how it is. Most of the time we hear phrases like the one I mentioned above, they come from people who begin to see how their eyes and eyelids are no longer what they were and we have the feeling that they have “fallen off.”

But in addition to that, Cristina already points out that “Depending on the structure of the eyelid itself, it will be more or less hooded, so we are talking about a type of eye that needs to give breadth and light to the area to enlarge and give expressiveness to the look.”

The importance of eyebrows when making up hooded eyes

The first step that Cristina Lobato suggests when facing this type of makeup is to focus on the eyebrows: “We start by defining well and applying makeup to the eyebrow since it will be our guide when it comes to structuring the makeup of the eyelid.” And the power of well-defined eyebrows is key in all looks, also included if we want to enhance the look.

Also, giving a touch of light to the arch of the eyebrow with a highlighter is always a good idea.

Shadows to make up droopy eyes

And we continue with the shadows that are key in this makeup. Cristina tells us that “We always apply the brightest shadow color to the mobile eyelid and then create a false eye socket in a more matte tone so that it looks natural and adds dimension to the eyelid. The colors will depend on each person's tastes.”

Come on, first we frame with a tone, for example, matte brown and then we add shine to the mobile eyelid area.

Some great allies to add light to our eyelids and make it appear brighter, more open and yes, taller, are liquid shadows, which are also very easy to use in those areas following Cristina's advice.

The final touch will be on the eyelashes, since it will serve to open the look: “We must apply a good amount of mascara. We choose a mascara that helps us define them but without weighing them down. It is preferable to apply false eyelashes hair by hair that help us give expressiveness to the look,” concludes the expert.
