We know well that hair suffers from the long exposure to the sun typical of summer days. For many of us who wear it naturally, it lightens little by little, but in the case of dyed ones, the change in tone is more evident. The ends lose color because they are damaged and this happens because, as hairstylist Conchi Arias explains: “The sun can oxidize the natural pigments present inside the hair, causing the color to degrade or disappear.”
No matter how much we take care of our hair, it is true that in summer it tends to be much drier and damaged due to the salt from the sea and the chlorine from swimming pools. The expert insists: “When the ends are very worn, the cuticle, which is the layer that protects the hair fiber, is eroded. This leaves the inside of the hair exposed, which is more vulnerable to external factors such as the sun, heat or chemicals.”
In this way, the hair not only loses its natural and original color, but also its shape, and this happens because, according to the hairdresser: “The inside of the hair is made up of proteins that give it structure and shape. If these are damaged, the hair not only loses strength, but also its original shape (curl or wave) and its ability to retain color.”
This is where nourishing masks come into play, which go one step beyond hydrating ones. And in summer its use is a real plus, it doesn't matter if you have curly, wavy or straight hair. Of course, there are times when the damage is irreparable and the most advisable thing to recover our healthy hair is to cut the ends so that they do not look split and the tone is much more unified with the rest of the hair.
