Carolina Avendaño, expert hairdresser in curls, leaves us three tips to treat gray hair in curly hair

We know perfectly well that for hair to look beautiful and healthy, you need to follow a good hair routine. Washing your hair and letting it dry outdoors to avoid heat sources is not enough. Furthermore, if we talk about curly hair, things get trickier because this type of hair needs more hydration, since due to its shape, the natural oils do not reach all of the hair.

In this sense, the curly method has changed the rules of the game and has brought the basic guidelines so that curly hair has the fundamental tools to enhance and care for their curls. But beyond this method and the countless tricks there are to define curls, it doesn't hurt to listen to hairdressers who are experts in this type of hair.

Curly and gray hair

Thanks to social networks we have learned a lot about curly hair, both from influencers who show us all their tricks and from specialists. As an example we have the expert Carolina Avendaño, creator of @rizondulada and who, after her social networks, leaves us a lot of tricks to take care of and get the most out of curly hair.

But this time, we go one step further and bring you three tips that Carolina herself has given to take care of curly and gray hair. What the expert begins by saying is that “commonly, this type of hair is more porous due to the loss of melanin and by losing the pigment, the hair becomes coarser.”

The first tip that Avendaño leaves us with is to tone without drying. For gray hair to look beautiful and without yellow tones, this step is essential. Specific shampoos for gray hair with a mattifying action will be great allies, since they eliminate unwanted pigments and help gray hair look whiter, gray or silver. The expert's recommendation is to use it in moderation since these shampoos contain surfactants that dry out the hair.

The second recommendation is deep hydration. “Gray hair, being more porous, does not retain enough hydration, which is why I recommend applying hydronutritive masks that contain oils to retain more hydration,” says the expert.

Another essential step to achieve defined, frizz-free curls is to achieve good definition. “This will help you control frizz and porosity, giving softness and shine to your hair,” adds Avendaño.
