Ana Molina, dermatologist: “If you suffer from seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff or scalp problems, it is key to let the shampoo act for at least 3 to 5 minutes. It's not just about washing and rinsing!”

Over the past few months I have learned an important lesson about my hair after taking the glass of water test, and that is that I had no idea how to treat it. Although I have improved some aspects by introducing a small pre-shampoo routine before washing, the truth is that there are still many of us who don't know how to really wash our hair.

Dermatologist Ana Molina explained in one of her social media videos the mistake we make when using treatment shampoos, for example for dandruff: washing our hair too quickly. If you wash your hair in 2 minutes using treatment shampoos, you are making a mistake. “When we use shampoos or treatment products, it is very important to let them act,” he explained.

Don't run when washing your hair

“If you suffer from seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff or scalp problems, it is key to let the shampoo act for at least 3 to 5 minutes. It's not just about washing and rinsing!” he states bluntly. For example, if you use an anti-dandruff shampoo, let it act for five minutes and in the meantime, you can exfoliate your body, soap up, shave, or take a bath. “These shampoos have active ingredients that need time to take effect: calm, control inflammation, regulate sebum or eliminate fungi,” says the expert.

“In addition, if you have seborrheic dermatitis, which is one of the manifestations of dandruff, the products you use to wash your head can be used to wash your face or even the chest area, where dermatitis usually appears. That is, they will improve us because it is all part of the same disease,” he added.

The expert added some extra tips when washing our hair, such as “applying the shampoo mainly to the scalp, not to the entire length of the hair,” massaging it gently “without scratching or further irritating the skin,” and being consistent with the treatment, following the manufacturer's instructions and not applying it only when you have an outbreak.

With these tips, even if you have dandruff, you will be able to have great hair because as the doctor says, “take care of your scalp with patience and your hair will thank you.”
