Alberto Sanguino, hairdresser: "To integrate the gray hair without cutting the hair all at once, you have to start with increasingly lighter highlights and tone them towards gray."

At this point in the game, we all know that gray hair is something that is increasingly accepted in women's hair and that there are many who give up dyeing, showing off their silver hair with great pride.

It is true that, once the decision is made to stop dyeing, there is a transition period towards white hair that takes us through several stages, for example, cutting the hair short or, where appropriate, opting for different techniques such as highlights.

Alberto Sanguino, Head of Training at Llongueras, explains to us how to face this transition period: “A good idea is to perform a highlighting technique for a couple of months where the blonde color predominates and these are the lightest tone that the hair allows.” Of course, he points out that “you must always respect the hair structure and intersperse them with some highlights of a color that simulates that of your natural hair.”

With this technique, as the months go by, Alberto suggests that “the highlights should only be blonde and they will have to be tinted in gray tones until any trace of dye disappears. During this process the hair will have been cut little by little, which will help to finally make all the hair gray.” It is a slow process, but less traumatic for all those people who want to maintain the length of their hair..

Thus, we have several options that are pure trend in highlights to choose from, ranging from knitted, babylight or the technique known as Gray Blending which, in reality, are balayage highlights with gray hair, also ideal for those who already have gray hair but do not like its tone or, simply, cold tones do not suit them.

In fact, it is a technique especially recommended for women who have cold skin (white or pinkish) since gray tones are not very flattering, which is why gray blending is performed in golden tones to further enhance its colorimetry.

Of course, if we use the Gray Blending during the transition, again, the color of the gradient highlights are always taken to the lightest possible tone, as in the first case, nuanced with a gray tone to simulate gray hair. Without a doubt, it is a great option for all those who want to stop dyeing but can't find the time to see how the dye goes down and the roots show more and more.
