Hospice Mid Canterbury provides support to people of all ages, with any life-limiting condition, from the point of diagnosis, free of charge. Since 2015 they have continued to increase the range of therapies and support offered to individuals and their caregivers throughout the Ashburton District, currently contracting seven independent service providers to provide counselling, bereavement support, massage, reiki, reflexology, acupressure and relaxation therapy. In addition to these therapies, new group programmes are offered including exercise therapy for those with neurological conditions, caregiver support programmes and monthly armchair travel sessions. A large team of volunteers also provides supports such as biography writing, sitting, companionship, transport, shopping and pet care.
Fundraising events are critical to the success of Hospice and they are delighted to once again be running their Christmas Experience, a home tour with a difference. The event, which has been generously supported by 100% Smith & Church is intended to assist Hospice Mid Canterbury in the supply of support, while helping to raise their profile. Knowing this support is available enables people in the community to feel better equipped when it comes to matters relating to the end-of-life journey.
Last run in 2019, the Christmas Experience will see a number of houses around Ashburton open their doors to welcome visitors. With each one decorated for Christmas it is a heart-warming and delightful tour guaranteed to bring a smile to your face, and perhaps inspire your own Christmas decorating! Organisers have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to secure an eclectic array of houses, ensuring there is something on offer for everyone.
The houses will be open for viewing from 10 am – 2 pm with the day concluding from 2–4 pm at the beautiful Trott’s Garden where the chapel will be decorated with Christmas decorations. Visitors will have the opportunity to walk around the garden and experience this magnificent setting, while shopping up a storm with the on-site marquee hosting Christmas stalls.
A wonderful excuse to get in the Christmas spirit while raising funds for a fabulous cause.
