We already know the long weekends of the 2026 work calendar and January is the best time to buy flights

Posted on 8 January 2026

We know that the month of January, after all the expenses typical of the Christmas weeks: meals with friends, reunions, gifts, is not the quintessential time in which we begin to fantasize about a destination to travel to during a long weekend in 2026. However, it turns out that it is the best month to get your flights, precisely because after the high season of December, prices begin to drop. That's not all, we already know with certainty the upcoming holidays and long weekends, so we have no excuse if we want to start organizing a new trip as soon as possible.

We will have a total of 14 holidays, 12 national and 2 local, in addition to four three-day weekends and at least three long weekends, although this will not be the case in all autonomous communities. And we will have, yes, 9 common national holidays: starting with last Thursday, January 1 (New Year), Tuesday, January 6 (Three Kings' Day), Friday, April 3 (Good Friday), Friday, May 1 (Labor Holiday), Saturday, August 15 (Assumption of the Virgin), Monday, October 12 (Spanish National Holiday), Sunday, November 1 (All Saints' Day), Tuesday, December 8 (Day of the Immaculate Conception) and Friday, December 25 (Christmas).

Holidays in Madrid

In addition to the common holidays, we add Saturday, May 2, Festival of the Community of Madrid and the festivals within the municipality that would be Friday, May 15, which is San Isidro Labrador, and Monday, November 9, which is Nuestra Señora de La Almudena.

Holidays in Catalonia

To the common holidays we add San Juan on Wednesday, June 24, Friday, September 11, which is the National Day of Catalonia. Furthermore, in Barcelona we add May 25 and September 24, which is La Mercè.

Long weekends of the year and best dates to travel

If you want to take advantage of the long weekends and long weekends to enjoy a getaway with your family, friends or partner, we will tell you the key dates that you can consider for this. And now is the ideal time to take some flights and enjoy a mini getaway without spending your vacation days.

From April 2 to 5 you can chain together four days for a trip through Europe. Perhaps a destination near Spain like Paris or Rome could be a great choice. Although it is also an ideal date to enjoy other spots like London or Dublin. From May 1 to 3, more or less the same thing happens: a holiday on a Friday that allows you a three-day long weekend where a destination like the Canary Islands can be perfect to momentarily feel that summer has arrived ahead of time.

October 10 to 12 is also a key date since you can extend the weekend by enjoying a trip from Saturday to Monday. Here is a must bet on national destinations, a train journey for a getaway to the north or perhaps to Valencia, to take advantage of the last hot days. To this we add Tuesday, December 8 and if you order Monday the 7th you have a fantastic four-day long weekend to enjoy a European market, just when Christmas is just around the corner. For this, Copenhagen, Amsterdam or Brussels are our favorite destinations. Take note and organize your getaways in advance.
