To highlight your look, there is a better pencil than black and your eyes will look fresher and rejuvenated.

Something that we must keep in mind as we age is that there are haircuts with anti-aging action, which will give us extra freshness and youthfulness. Just like makeup is a great tool antiaging which we do not have to give up, but we do have to adapt it to our needs.

The idea is to enhance the features that we want to highlight but the key is not to harden the features. In this sense, the eye area is usually one of those that we usually like to enhance, although on the other hand we have to take into account that with age it is a somewhat conflictive area: wrinkles, drooping eyelid, blurred eye… Precisely for this reason, what worked for us before, may now be the opposite.

Avoid makeup on the lower water line

One of the most common practices when applying eye makeup is to mark the lower water line. It is true that this gesture makes the gaze become even more penetrating and can help to intensify the look, but we must also take into account that in women over 60 it closes the eye a lot, taking away its freshness and hardening the features.

According to expert Inma Novillo, professional makeup artist and marketing manager for You Are The Princess, she believes that: “if I were 60 years old, I would never put makeup on the water line under my eye. It makes you add years unnecessarily, hardening your look and subtracting freshness.”

Although dark pencils are not exactly the best anti-aging allies, pencils in light tones are. “At that age, what is most beneficial is to open the eye with light tones, give light to the area and opt for well-defined eyelashes,” adds Novillo. A black khol, as we mentioned, can intensify the look, but at the same time it creates unattractive shadows, makes wrinkles more evident and takes away the freshness of the look.

Replace the black pencil with lighter and brighter tones

The best option to put the focus on your eyes and make them look more cheerful and awake are undoubtedly light colors. To do this, you just have to forget about the classic and dramatic black pencil, and go for a light pencil, like Victoria Beckham does to rejuvenate her look. “Instead, a pencil in beige or ivory tones opens the look and illuminates,” declares the expert.

The reason why this change works is very simple. Dark tones create depth and this makes the eyes look smaller, and they also do not provide luminosity. On the other hand, a light tone makes the eyes look larger, with more light and makes the eyes look rested.

This makeup trick works for all women, no matter what eye color they have. In the case of dark eyes, marking the waterline in a butter tone makes them look lighter and brighter; and in light eyes the natural color of the iris is enhanced.

Plus, this gesture works with any eye color. In dark tones, it provides freshness and clarity, while, in light eyes, it enhances the natural brightness of the iris. If you are looking for a more sophisticated result, you can combine it with a warm shadow, such as a soft brown or taupe, blended on the lower line, to make it stand out a little more without hardening.
