On the turquoise and eternal coasts of Cádiz, within the municipality of Barbate, hides a discreet and quiet fishing village (in low season) known as Zahara de los Atunes. Formerly it was dedicated to the almadraba, but now it has specialized in relaxed, disconnection tourism that is a pleasure for adults and children.

The historic center of Zahara de los Atunes is small, but impressive. Among its streets of fishermen's huts and whitewashed facades that reflect the light, we find authentic treasures, such as the Palace of the Dukes of Medina Sidonia, a 16th-century walled enclosure declared a Monument of Cultural Interest.

Another very interesting stop is the church of Carmen, patron saint of this old sailors' refuge, as it could not be otherwise. It was formerly an old salt mine, but in the 16th century this temple with white walls and interior arches was built. Furthermore, stopping by the Mercado de Abastos is always a pleasure: it is small, but the raw materials are delicious and the fish, especially the tuna, is exquisite.
After this sightseeing tour, the best thing we can do is go straight to the beach. Zahara de los Atunes beach has five kilometers of white sand and turquoise waters, among dunes and vegetation that will make you feel on a desert island and far from noise, stress and work.

It is a small town, but it has many restaurants for all tastes. We are all about trying the local cuisine and for this there is nothing better than El Refugio, a beach bar on the beach specializing in Zaharena cuisine, with tuna with onions, shrimp and the best little fish fried.

Cañuelo Beach
In addition to Zahara de los Atunes beach, there are several beaches near the town that are worth visiting, especially in the Tarifa area. The beaches of Atlanterra, Los Alemanes or Cañuelo are very virgin, wild and have a summer charm far from the crowds.
Another walk is to the Camarinal Lighthouse, which has been located at Punta de Gracia since the 16th century and has a beautiful viewpoint of the entire coastline with the African continent on the horizon.
