The steepest coasts of Tenerife hide a small fishing village of colorful houses, which crowd together, defying gravity, on top of a cliff overlooking the Atlantic. Alcalá is the charming fishing corner that has been chosen by Belén Esteban to spend a few days of disconnection with her family.
What to see in Alcalá, Tenerife
The 19th century fishermen's houses remain intact, built around the beautiful parish of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria, with a historical altarpiece from the Villa de La Orotava. All of this overlooks its promenade, which is raised with volcanic stone on top, with views of the coves that surround it. If you also catch a Monday there, you can enjoy its market.

Under Alcalá there are three small black sand beaches and several natural pools that fill with fresh water when the tide rises. The most famous is Alcalá beach, located right on the old dock, surrounded by colorful boats and with a sunset with La Gomera as an unforgettable backdrop.
Where to eat cheap and delicious in Alcalá, Tenerife

Alcalá boasts some of the freshest seafood dishes on the entire island, harvested directly from the ocean to the plate. You can enjoy them in two very popular locations: Restaurante Muelle Viejo has steamed mussels with citrus mojo, Canarian cuisine, grilled fish of all kinds and spectacular homemade desserts.

If you want something more typical, the El Mirador Fishermen's Guild has managed to keep the traditional recipes alive and has a fried catalufa with wrinkled potatoes and lemon that is quite a spectacle.
What to do near Alcalá, Tenerife

Less than 20 minutes by car from Alcalá is one of the most impressive natural monuments in the entire Canary Islands. Los Gigantes are 600 meter cliffs that fall vertically into the sea, so virgin and beautiful that they are natural heritage. We can admire its immensity from the viewpoint, or hire a boat tour around it to see dolphins and whales in this area, which the Guanche aborigines called “Wall of Hell.” Belén Esteban does know how to choose a destination.
