Spain hides one of the most incredible hiking routes in the world: it has been named a Natural Site of National Interest

Posted on 9 February 2026

It seems unbelievable that there are such strange places in the world. Never in a million years would it occur to us humans to build a stone city with sinuous shapes, but nature is capricious and in this canyon it has let itself go. It looks like a distant planet or the setting of floating rocks from 'Avatar', but it is in Cuenca and the best plan for a getaway to nature.

The Roman Bridge

This canyon was declared a Natural Site of National Interest in 1929 and is popularly known as the Enchanted City of Cuenca. Its greatest attraction is these impossible rock forms, a geological phenomenon 90 million years old that, to this day, continues to obsess geologists around the world.

The Boats

This three-kilometer route surrounds natural sculptures that look hand-carved as amazing as the Seal, the Bears, the Roman Bridge, the Mushroom (on the cover) or the Boats, among many others. The culprits of its strange shapes are water, wind and ice eroding over centuries and leaving us, as a result, this dreamlike fantasy in real life.

This natural treasure is a great plan to get away and breathe clean air. In addition, it is very easy to navigate, with a marked trail and explanatory panels, so it can be done with children and even with pets, they are allowed! The entrance costs 7 euros and it closes at 4:30 p.m., that way we take advantage of the hours of sunshine among pine forests, rosemary, thyme and almost extraterrestrial stones.
