Mario Casas is an inveterate traveler who travels the entire world, from El Salvador to Namibia, where he was recently with his partner Melyssa Pinto. However, it has a seaside refuge to which it has returned again and again since 2009 and it is neither exotic nor foreign. This is Carballo, a fishing village in Galicia to which the actor always returns: it is his favorite place to surf in his birthplace, A Coruña.

Although Carballo is a small town and easy to explore on foot, its rhythm of maritime life has mixed with a more vibrant one. It has many craft shops, fairs, a food market and even a mural route. The latter has turned Carballo into an open-air museum, covering its architecture with graffiti. There is even a map to discover them all.
Despite its modernity, ancient monuments of great heritage value are preserved in this town. The Pedra Moura dolmen is dated between 3500 and 2700 BC and still preserves five slabs in its burial. There are also several forts and some Roman baths in the current spa.

A walk through Carballo will take you through the last vestiges of the 20s, such as the garden, the casino or the Plaza de Galicia. They also have the Bergantiños Museum, with free admission, which tells the history of the town and its traditional gastronomy.
Baldaio Beach
The town is crossed by the Anllóns River, a three-kilometer river walk that will take you from the old town to a pleasant oak forest. From there we go to the coast, where Carballo has a smaller population center around its beautiful beaches: Baldaio with its lagoon and marshes, the more intimate and discreet Pedra de Sal and Razo beach, Mario Casas' favorite.

Razo Beach is a beach very famous for its incredible waves, ideal for surfing in the Atlantic. That's why Mario Casas always comes here to practice this water sport. It has beautiful sand dunes that merge with green meadows and one of the most idyllic sunsets in the entire region.

Carballo is famous for its bread and its fresh fish and seafood, like a good gateway to the Atlantic that it is. We recommend you try everything at O Cordobés, a traditional restaurant that still has menus for 13 euros. There is fish of the day fresh from the fish market, clams, Galician meats and views of the sea.
What to do around Carballo, A Coruña
Just over 15 minutes by car from Carballo is the Refuxio de Verdes. This natural area of the Natura 2000 Network is a lush fairy-tale forest, full of oaks, willows and chestnut trees that we can explore with a simple and very beautiful 12-kilometer walk. It is carried out near the river, with old water mills that still function thanks to the power of the Anllóns River.
