In the depths of Castilla y León, hidden between hills and accompanied by the murmur of the Duero River, there is an ancient city, full of historical heritage and Romanesque architecture with hardly any tourists. Soria is the most underrated city in all of Spain, which is why it has escaped overcrowding. However, experienced travelers know well: there is no place more beautiful in autumn.
What to see in Soria, the city of poets
The center of Soria is a treasure of labyrinthine and cobbled streets that surprises you with monuments in every corner. It is a small historic center and easy to explore on foot, enjoying the freshness of autumn and the orange tones that its groves take on.

Church of San Juan de Rabanera
This walk will take you to the church of San Juan de Rabanera, built in 1270 and declared a National Monument in 1929 for its Sorian Romanesque architecture. Right in front is the Soria Provincial Council, with bronze statues representing illustrious figures from Soria at the entrance.

Women's Square
From there we head towards El Collado street, the heart of all of Soria capital. Along the way we will see the secluded Plaza del Olivo and the Plaza de las Mujeres, where there are neoclassical buildings, ancestral houses and many palaces that recall the noble past of the city.

Plaza Mayor
Finally, we arrive at the Plaza Mayor. It is a square with Castilian influences, with continuous balconies and a fountain of lions in the center. Beyond is Calle Real, with the beautiful Palace of the Counts of Gómara, a 16th century Renaissance building converted into a Provincial Court, with an impressive heraldic doorway and a tower.

Church of Santo Tomé
In Soria there is also the very famous church of Santo Tomé, renovated in the 16th century and one of the most beautiful examples of Romanesque in Spain. In fact, its altarpiece is known as the Main Altarpiece of Castile, considered an Artistic Monument.
Where to eat cheap and delicious in Soria

As in any city in Castile, in Soria you can eat well everywhere. Pork is their specialty and torreznos are a must-try, the official food of Soria. You can try them in many bars, taverns and restaurants, such as Bar Apolonia or Cervecería-Bar Torcvato, typical taverns with homemade food.
What to do near Soria capital: the castle and the banks of the Duero

On the outskirts of the city is the Soria Castle, an old Muslim watchtower from the 9th century that was expanded in the 12th century, now in Christian hands. It is on a summit and surrounded by an idyllic environment, the banks of the Duero. From there we can take a beautiful walk in autumn, with the red, orange and ocher trees.

Hermitage of San Saturio
In 20 minutes you reach the hermitage of San Saturio, hanging on a cliff and dating back to the 6th century, although it has later been repaired and rebuilt. Surrounded by forests, bridges and views of the entire city of Soria.
