Huelva experienced a historic moment for its gastronomy in 2015, when the Acánthum restaurant, directed by Xanty Elías, obtained the province's first Michelin star. Then, in 2017, it was elected Capital of Gastronomy. Although the joy lasted only until 2021, when the establishment closed its doors. The province was then left without any star that recognized the excellence of gastronomy and the culinary experience.
Since then, it only began to recover when Finca Alfoliz received the Michelin Green Star in 2022, an award from this prestigious guide that rewards sustainability and responsible environmental practices. However, things have gotten worse with the Michelin 2026 guide, which has left the province with even fewer recognitions.
Thus, of the four restaurants that had Bib Gourmand distinction in 2025 (the category that recognizes excellent value for money), only two maintain it now. One of them is the already named Finca Alfoliz, which also renews the Green Star for the fifth consecutive year. While the other one that has renewed its Bib Gourmand distinction in the guide is Restaurante Arrieros.
However, although the province does not currently have a “conventional” Michelin star, the quality of its proposals and local raw materials, the creativity of its chefs and the authenticity of its products make Huelva an unavoidable destination to eat well without the need for pompous recognition.
