If you often pass by Plaza de España, it is impossible that you have not noticed what many Madrid residents know as “the bunker” or “the whale”: a green metal structure that promised to be a cafeteria, but seemed like it never finished starting. Until now: on January 8, the new 'Café de Cervantes' opened its doors, in the heart of the capital, and managed by the Casa Remigio Group.
The currently unattractive exterior of the building should be covered by beautiful vertical gardens that will better integrate the building on one side of the plaza. In addition to the hall for 100 people inside, it will also have two outdoor terraces in the area of the plaza.
When we enter the café we do so in a space dominated by wood and curved shapes, thus following the organic shapes of the new Plaza de España project. These more classic shapes are intertwined with “modern” details that start from Cervantes' own logo with sunglasses and reach the already famous “Decorated Meninas” that we can also find in other restaurants of the same group such as “Café del Río”, on the banks of the Manzanares.
@momentomadrid New in Madrid ✨ Café de Cervantes opened in Plaza de España after a long wait! Since it's the opening, there were a lot of people, so I'll try it another day when it's calmer hehe #cafedecervantes #plazadeespaña #planesmadrid

The space serves as a cafeteria and restaurant, where we can stop to have a coffee or an infusion for 2.80 euros, or even a complete menu consisting of a starter, three courses, dessert and a drink for 35 euros. Some of the dishes have references to Don Quixote, the main protagonist of this space. The kitchen is open continuously from 12:00 in the morning to 01:00 at night.

In addition, it also has the “Mahou winery” and a free loan service of books from the Spanish Golden Age, which we can read while we are in the premises.
The new Cervantes café will open every day from 08:00 in the morning to 02:00 in the morning.
