The separate roots of Ana Duato (58 years old) and Miguel Bernardeau (29 years old) are between the city where she learned to make rice every Sunday and the town of farmhouses where he spent part of his childhood

There are almost three decades that separate Ana Duato and her son Miguel Bernardeau, both born in Valencia and with a very good custom in common: good rice. “The table and good food have united us a lot,” said the actress, who is an expert in preparing rice on Sundays as a family tradition that Miguel enjoys very much: “I'm into paella.”

Valencia is its common denominator, but its roots were dispersed several kilometers away. Ana Duato grew up here in the seventies, surrounded by a family with culinary experience: her father was a member of a wine club and her sister is a sommelier and cook. With such examples and growing up in the city that is the birthplace of good rice, it is not surprising that paella is the official family dish.

However, his son Miguel Bernardeau did not grow up in the city. He moved with his parents to Madrid, because they worked in the capital. Later, he went to Los Angeles to study acting, but he has always maintained the link with his Levantine roots: “I have not lived in Valencia, but I have been there a lot.” Be careful, because when he talks about going to Valencia he is not referring to the capital, but to the town of farmhouses par excellence, Bétera.

Bétera, the town of farmhouses where Miguel Bernardeau grew up

This town is an old Iberian town from the 6th century BC that still maintains much of its historical heritage, such as the Boíl Palace with its 11th century Muslim tower. However, its popularity is due to the multitude of farmhouses from the late 19th century that continue to function, country houses with crops where life becomes slow, quiet and with the Mediterranean essence of yesteryear. One of those mansions belonged to his maternal grandparents.

This town, located under the Sierra Calderona, is surrounded by beautiful fields ideal for rural hiking. It also has a Roman site known as l'Horta Bella, an ancient thermal circuit in very good condition. Nearby is the Bofilla tower, the ruins of the Arab farmhouse that makes all of Bétera proud. A beautiful and different getaway to discover the dream corner where a young Bernardeau spent his childhood before becoming one of the most popular actors in Spain.
