Raquel Linde, professional makeup artist: “The eyebrows that rejuvenate the most are those that retain density and follow the natural shape of the eye so that the look looks more open and rested”

Years ago eyebrows had almost no prominence and few people filled them in or fixed them when applying makeup. But nowadays, when they are worn naturally and with a lot of presence, we have realized the importance that eyebrows really have. They frame the look and change the expression of the face, hence their shape, thickness, density and design directly influence facial balance, to the point that a small touch-up can make a big difference.

But if we talk about a rejuvenating effect, without a doubt the eyebrows are super important in this aspect. From the age of 40 or 50, it is worth taking into account a good design and strategic application of makeup. A good job can completely change the face and also the way the look is perceived. You can go from a look without strength and almost without prominence, to the complete opposite, and without the need to harden or lose freshness.

Makeup artist Raquel Linde, beauty expert and Marketing Manager of You Are The Princess, explains to the Semana publication that “the easiest way is to work with the hair we already have and direct it upwards, from the center to the tail,” says the professional. For this expert, the eyebrows that are most flattering are those that retain a certain thickness, a natural shape and a discreet elevation on the outside.

What is achieved with this effect after 40 is that visually the look looks more lifted, like a facelift. In addition, Linde highlights that too intense strokes or excessively fallen tails can make the look appear harder and duller. The ideal is to respect the shape of the eyebrows and make small adjustments where necessary. With a few basic products and a simple application, we can gain definition, conceal less populated areas and achieve a much more natural and flattering result.

How to choose the eyebrow design according to the shape of the face

When it comes to eyebrows, each face needs its own design. There is no universal eyebrow that works for everyone. The secret is to find a design that matches the features and helps balance the proportions. For example, on round faces, a slightly raised arch can visually stylize the features, while on elongated faces a slightly straighter and more horizontal eyebrow is more flattering. On the other hand, when the features are angular, opting for softer curves helps sweeten the expression.

But the shape of the eyes also plays an important role when designing flattering eyebrows. Aspects such as bone structure, eye size and, especially, the distance between the two must be taken into account. Thus, when the eyes are close together, lightly cleaning the area between the eyebrows can help create a greater sensation of spaciousness. On the contrary, if they are further apart, it is advisable not to remove too much hair from that area, as we could accentuate the distance between them even more.

To make up your eyebrows you have to pay attention to the shape

Something quite common when doing eyebrow makeup is to start filling in with a pencil above them to make them look denser. But doing it this way is not a good idea, because this way the eyebrows tend to become very hard and lose their natural texture. The best way, according to the expert, is to “concentrate the product on the upper part of the arch and on the tail, always with fine, ascending strokes. At the bottom, define only what is necessary to maintain the shape. It is also important that the tail ends slightly elevated or horizontal. The direction has a lot of weight in how we perceive the look,” advises Raquel.

Doing it well does not mean getting complicated with the method. When the eyebrows have good density, all you have to do is comb them and set them with a transparent or colored gel. On the other hand, when there are small gaps, the most effective thing is to use a precise pencil and fill in where it is needed, without adding makeup to the rest of the eyebrow.
