Conchi Arias, curl expert: "To wash the hair we are going to open sections and apply our shampoo linearly."

Curly hair has its own personality and manes look spectacular when those curls are well cared for. The curly method has shown that it works wonders for them, however, there are other care gestures that must also be taken into account. In this sense, the way you wash your hair is essential, not only using the right products, but with the correct technique.

Curl expert Conchi Arias shows on her social networks the correct way to wash curly hair. The hairdresser points out the classic mistakes to avoid and shows the best way for washing to be effective without damaging the hair or curls.

“We are not going to rub the mid-lengths and ends with the shampoo. What we are going to do is apply the shampoo to the scalp,” says Conchi. This recommendation is because the shampoo is primarily formulated to cleanse the scalp, removing excess oil, product residue, and other impurities. In this way, you avoid subjecting the lengths to unnecessary friction that could promote dryness and frizz, especially in curly hair.

Another mistake that the professional points out when washing hair is applying the shampoo using circular movements. “It is incorrect to apply the shampoo in circles because we are going to tangle the hair,” warns the stylist. Instead, Arias recommends separating your hair into sections and distributing the product in linear movements directly over the scalp. This technique helps prevent tangles and makes it easier for the shampoo to reach the roots, instead of just staying on the surface of the hair.

Just like once the product has been applied, you should not rub the hair abruptly because we are going to have terrible tangles.” What Arias recommends is to use the fingertips and rub the scalp in a linear manner. Then, with the foam that we have generated, we pass it through the entire length of the hair to eliminate any residue or dirt that may be present.

Once the shampoo is applied, it is also important to avoid rubbing the hair roughly, as this can cause tangles that are difficult to undo. “We are going to have some terrible tangles,” says the hairdresser. For this reason, the stylist recommends massaging the scalp with the fingertips using linear and soft movements. Afterwards, simply slide the foam that has been generated through the middles and ends of the hair to remove the remains of dirt without having to rub or manipulate the hair excessively.
