We know that curly hair has its own needs and that taking care of your hair curly It requires being very aware of it. For this, sulfate-free shampoos are essential, but also those without silicones. The idea is to always opt for ingredients that are gentler to help maintain the nutrition of our hair. But what happens if we notice some accumulation of dirt on our scalp? Curl expert stylist Conchi Arias gives us the definitive tips.

“When your scalp is sensitive, itchy or bothersome, your shampoo should not have a sulfate that is too strong.” This is because the last thing your hair requires is the aggressive cleaning that these types of ingredients usually bring with them. Of course, when we begin to notice accumulation of dirt at the roots, as well as itching, oiliness, flaking, we immediately feel that we need to “clean more” our hair. But the expert insists: it's not about that, but about cleaning better.

“Strong sulfates can excessively remove the natural protection of a scalp if it is already a little sensitive. Consequently, the skin becomes more altered, more tightness, more itching, more irritation and even more imbalance and hypersensitivity may appear,” explains the expert. This does not mean that you have to give up sulfates and avoid them at all costs, but that you need a shampoo with milder sulfates formulated to cleanse without attacking, respecting the skin barrier and helping to rebalance the scalp from the roots.
In addition, you do not need to use this type of shampoo every day, but you can opt for your sulfate-free shampoo daily and leave options with milder sulfates for occasional use once a month that help cleanse your scalp more deeply without destroying it to achieve that cleaner feeling.
