Leire Erdociain, makeup artist: "If you have wrinkles, folds, expression lines, do not apply the concealer right where you have the dark area, but rather a little underneath and work it upwards."

Makeup can become our best ally to enhance features, camouflage imperfections and achieve a flattering finish with a good-looking effect. Of course, to achieve this, it is important to avoid certain mistakes that can ruin the final result. Otherwise, instead of achieving fresh, luminous and natural makeup, we can end up with a cracked, dull and unflattering finish.

Specifically, today we are going to highlight three makeup mistakes that according to makeup artist Leire Erdocian we should not make to get the most out of our makeup routine and obtain the best results.

Her first recommendation focuses on correctly preparing the skin before applying makeup, using products appropriate to its needs. “Prepare your skin correctly if you want your makeup to stay intact throughout the day,” advises Leire.

Another mistake that the makeup artist highlights is putting the foundation directly on the face. Here what she indicates is to apply “a small amount on the back of the hand and this way you can control the product and not overdo it,” clarifies Erdocian. To ensure that the makeup base has a beautiful finish, it is essential to control the amount of product we apply. On most skin types, it is not necessary to use too much to even out the tone and achieve a flattering effect. The ideal is to start with a small amount and add product if necessary, always in thin layers, to avoid a heavy and unnatural finish.

Another of the most common errors has to do with the application of concealer. In this case, the advice shared by the makeup artist is especially interesting for mature skin, since it helps achieve a more natural and flattering finish, without excessively marking expression lines. “If you have wrinkles or expression lines, don't apply the concealer right where you have the dark area, but rather a little underneath and work it upwards,” explains Leire. In this way, by placing the product a few millimeters below, “you will avoid putting too much product in the area where you have folds and causing it to crack over the hours,” says the professional.
