Gema Casas, hairdresser: "To style frizzy hair in curly or wavy hair, enhance the texture with styling cream and air dry or diffuser. On straight hair, I recommend creating waves and brushing them for a more natural texture."

Frizzy hair can also be styled without having to end up with completely straight and ironed hair. In fact, that is what hairdresser Gema Casas proposes: take advantage of part of that volume and give it shape. The key is to adapt the technique to whether we have straight, wavy or curly hair.

The stylist, founder of the organic hair salon that bears her name, explains it this way in a statement to 'Woman': “The key is to work on frizz in favor of the hairstyle, not try to eliminate it completely.” That means leaving room for movement and a less polished texture, although with intention. Because yes, the casual finish also involves some work, even though its name seems to suggest otherwise.

Combing Frizzy Curly Hair

For curly or wavy hair, Casas suggests starting with what the hair already has: “We can enhance the natural texture with a styling cream and let it air dry or with a diffuser.” Afterwards, she advises separating some strands with your fingers to gain volume. The idea is to follow the shape of the curl or wave, without turning straightening into a mandatory step to keep your hair styled.

Combing frizzy straight hair

For straight hair, your suggestion is to create wide waves with a brush, straightener or curling iron. Here, there is also a detail that is important to respect: wait for them to cool before brushing them gently. According to the expert, this last step allows you to achieve a more natural texture. The objective of this technique is to open the wave and give it movement, instead of keeping each strand perfectly marked.

Products and types of hairstyles

The choice of product we should use also changes depending on the hair. For fine hair, the hairdresser recommends a light cream or an anti-frizz serum in a small amount. For thick, curly or very dry hair, suggest more nourishing creams and a few drops of oil on the mid-lengths and ends. In both cases, his advice is to start small and add more only if necessary, to preserve movement and not lose volume along the way.

However, it can also happen that we don't feel like wearing it loose. In the event that we want to pick it up, among the expert's proposals are the casual low bun, the relaxed braid and the semi-updo with volume. They all share the same intention: to shape the whole without requiring a completely polished finish. As Casas summarizes, “it is not necessary to control each hair but to give a shape to the whole.” Above all, if we accompany it with careful tips and a cut that accompanies our natural texture. And he says: “The key is to work on frizz in favor of the hairstyle, not try to eliminate it completely.”
