David Lesur, hairdresser: "From the age of 50, to look younger, it is advisable to opt for haircuts above the clavicle with layers and avoid very long hair."

Renewing our image can be an excellent way to see ourselves better, strengthen self-esteem and gain self-confidence. And to achieve this, big changes are not always necessary: sometimes, it is enough to go for a trendy haircut. But if the cut is right, it can add lightness, movement and character to the hair. It can even take years off our appearance in a matter of seconds, without the need to resort to aesthetic treatments.

There are certain haircuts capable of providing a rejuvenating effect, although not all of them work the same for each person. To get it right, it is essential to take into account hair texture, personal preferences and face shape, since each woman has her own characteristics that should be enhanced. The key is to find a style that enhances the features and brings freshness to the whole, especially after the age of 50, a stage in which small changes can make a big difference.

Hairdresser David Lesur, training director of the David Künzle salons, comments in BellezaPura that: “For a still young woman of 50 years old, for example, I advise that the length be above the clavicle and distribute the volume through the layers and in a harmonious way to generate movement, with a slightly outlined contour, as long as the density and quantity of the hair allows it,” he says.

The most rejuvenating cuts after 50

In this sense, there is not only one type of haircut that can provide anti-aging effects, but it is true that some stand out especially for their ability to provide freshness and movement to the hair. Among them we find the layered bob, a very flattering option and easy to adapt to different features and hair textures. The idea is to keep the nape area a little shorter and leave the front strands slightly longer, creating a silhouette that frames the face. To complete the cut, we can opt for curtain or straight bangs, two alternatives that help highlight the look and soften the forehead.

This style adds volume, texture and dynamism to the hair, preventing the hair from looking too uniform. However, if you prefer to keep the length, you can also achieve a rejuvenating result with subtle layers that provide lightness and movement, avoiding that heavy and dull appearance that hair sometimes acquires when it is worn completely straight.

After the bob, another cut that is also worth taking into account is the bob, a classic style that suits different face types. According to Lesur, wearing it a little longer can help stylize oval features, while its shorter version is especially flattering on long faces or faces with marked features. If you have a rather square face, you can opt for the bouclé carré, an option with movement and texture that helps soften the features and adds a sweeter air to the outfit.

You don't have to wait until you're 50 to change your look.

At 40, many women begin to look for haircuts that flatter them, provide a fresher look, and are also easy to style on a daily basis. It's not about changing your image completely, but rather finding a style that enhances your features and has more personality.

For Ana Martínez, hair stylist at Oh my Cut!, there are two cuts that stand out precisely for this reason: the bob and the shag, two very versatile options that allow you to play with layers, length and bangs to achieve a mane with movement and a natural finish.

The carré is a cut that provides a sophisticated touch without losing freshness. “For me, the perfect measurement is at the height of the jaw. It achieves a casual effect since it leaves the neck clear and feminine,” explains the stylist. The Shag, on the other hand, is more casual and its layers provide structure and dynamism. “It is ideal if you are looking for movement, modernity and naturalness. It works especially well on curly or wavy hair, as it highlights its texture,” says Martínez.
