The most experienced travelers agree: this is how you can have a stress-free vacation

Posted on 25 August 2026

No matter how excited we are, a trip has many moments that test our patience and willingness to want to do another one again. From uncomfortable flights to paid nights in a hotel where no one sleeps a wink… However, although we cannot control all the mishaps and inconveniences that may arise, we are responsible for our choices during planning. Although it may sometimes seem tempting to stick to our usual habits and routines, trying something different can be a pleasant surprise. These are some proposals that the most experienced travelers have shared on Reddit and that we found to be magnificent ideas.

Traveling alone does not mean being alone

If you're traveling alone, you can make it a goal to leave shyness at home and strive to be especially open and friendly to the people you meet during your trip. Whether it's other travelers or locals. You will notice an abysmal difference in the experience.

Paying more pays off, sometimes

Although, when we plan a trip, we look for it to be as economical as possible, comfort cannot remain on land. Many times it ends up being more expensive, even emotionally, to take a flight with stops that results in a missed connection or a journey twice as long than taking a direct flight. Arriving exhausted at your destination always takes its toll.

And the same thing happens with accommodation. Hostels are very cheap when it comes to money, yes, but they are cheap in exchange for all your comfort, privacy and a good night's sleep. Lack of comfort can irremediably ruin a trip.

Rethink nightlife

When traveling, it often seems that if we don't try the nightlife, we are missing something. However, bars and clubs tend to look quite similar in all parts of the world. It may be enough for us to go out for a drink and go to bed (relatively) early to be able to enjoy the next day without a hangover.

Less is more when it comes to destinations

Grouping several destinations into a single trip can be ideal in some specific circumstances. However, it is not a format suitable for applying to any destination. Going to one place and thoroughly enjoying what it has to offer is much more rewarding than binge-watching destinations to cross off a list.

Breakfast included

To save a few euros, we often choose the hotel option without breakfast. We think that we will grab something on the way to our first stop of the day or that we will look for a supermarket to buy something. However, when we don't know a place, finding where to have breakfast can be complicated. Including breakfast in our accommodation rate can be a good way to start the day with one less worry. Plus, who doesn't love hotel breakfasts?

Alone time matters

Traveling in a group, whether with family or friends, can put any relationship to the test. No matter how stable and consolidated it may seem, everyone has their own quirks, schedules and preferences and constantly giving in and adapting takes its toll. Coexistence and spending days doing everything together is heavy… In order not to end up arguing or fighting, it is important to reserve moments for ourselves in which we can do what you want, in your own way and at your own pace.

Rest from the holidays

Although it is a pleasant activity and a disconnection from our daily routine, traveling is tiring. These are days full of stimuli and activities in which you are going to walk and move a lot. If you can, don't rush and extend the trip until the same day before returning to work. Give yourself at least one day to unpack, sleep, and do absolutely nothing. If not, you'll go back to work needing a vacation from vacation.
