While most footballers and celebrities head to Ibiza as soon as summer arrives, Lamine Yamal prefers the paradisiacal tranquility of the beaches of Formentera. Specifically, the natural paradise of Ses Illetes, a totally virgin and protected sandy area in the north of the island, where the dazzling white of the soft sand turns pink on the shore and contrasts with the turquoise blue of the cleanest and wildest Mediterranean.
What to see in Ses Illetes, Formentera
Ses Illetes beach is the heart of the Ses Salines Natural Park, a huge sandy area where no buildings are allowed, to keep it completely virgin. It is a spit of sand more than a kilometer long, surrounded by sea on both sides and with views of several uninhabited islets, which further increase the 'paradisiacal postcard' effect.
The most special thing about this iconic beach is that it is pink. This is due to the fragments of shells and coral dust that have eroded on its shore and mixed with the white sand, creating a beautiful contrast. Especially at dusk, when the orange sun reflects and makes those particles sparkle.
Although Ses Illetes beach is far from any urban center, there are many ways to get to it. We can rent a bike, scooter or rental car, leaving them in the authorized parking lot 300 meters from the beach. Of course, you have to go early in the morning, because when it fills up the parking lot is blocked.
Another option is to take bus line L3 that connects La Savina with the beach in 10 minutes, paying 10 euros for the round trip. We can also go by taxi from the town, for about 10 or 15 euros.
Also, keep in mind that this beach is public, but it is not free. Access to the natural park is 2-4 euros by motorcycle and 4-6 euros by car, varying depending on the time of year and the number of tourists. This fee serves to finance the conservation of this special natural area and is paid at the entrance booth. If you walk or bike, you won't have to pay anything.
Where to eat cheap and delicious near Ses Illetes, Formentera
Eating cheap in Formentera is difficult, but near Ses Illetes it is already an impossible task. The restaurants in the natural park are worth paying tribute to in every sense, both gastronomic and economic. Lamine won't care much about that, but we will. For this reason, we have searched in the closest town, La Savina, for some more accessible (but not cheap) places. The grilled sardines at Café del Lago or the bluefin tuna parpatana at Fonda La Savina are exquisite.
What to do near Ses Illetes, Formentera
The Pilar de la Mola
Formentera is a small island and easy to get around. Therefore, leaving the oasis of Ses Illetes is worth it, to visit charming towns such as Sant Francesc Xavier or El Pilar de la Mola, with their whitewashed houses and traditional fishing streets and bohemian life. Along the way, make a stop at each cove and viewpoint to make the most of life on the Pitiusa island.
