But what we don't pay as much attention to is the parting of the hair, when in reality, such a subtle change can completely change the result.
In general, when it comes to parting your hair, you tend to go quite straight and many women have parted their hair in the same place for years, we can even say throughout their lives. From childhood or adolescence they settle with the parting at one point, usually in the middle, and they never change.
This means that over time, the hair becomes “vicious” and has a hard time changing direction and ends up opening naturally in the same place every time. Additionally, if you always part your part in the same point, something that can happen is that the hair loses density and the part appears wider, and sun damage can also occur in that area of the scalp.
But not only that, but moving the line can be very transformative. Therefore, choosing the part at one point or another depending on the shape of your face will make a big difference. The middle part, which is the favorite of generation Z, provides sophistication and visual balance; On the other hand, the side parting has an incredible rejuvenating effect, softens the features and provides movement.
So, at this point, you may be wondering which of the two stripes looks better on you. Well, to find out, stylist Federico Ojeda (@federicoojedaok) has shared a video where he explains how to know what type of face you have and which part works best for you. The method is very simple and you only need a ruler or tape measure to discover it.
The expert begins by saying that: “The way you comb your hair can ruin or improve your face” and then reveals the trick. “What we need to know is the length and width of your face,” he says.
“If your face is longer than it is wide, what suits you best is the side part. Now, if it is wider than long, what suits you best is the middle part,” says Ojeda.
To carry out this measuring tape test, we must place the tape from the forehead, right where the hair begins to the chin, and to measure the width we must focus on the middle third of the face (at the level of the cheekbones) which is usually the widest part.
Once we have these two measurements, we just have to see which of the two is longer. If your face is longer than its width, your side part will be the best option. On the other hand, if the width is greater than the length, or the measurements are similar, then the middle part will be your best ally.
Obviously, as experts often say, not all rules work for everyone, but in general terms they tend to help a lot. Because this is also influenced by the type of hair and the effect you want to achieve, not just the shape of the face. For example, a side part provides more volume, the hair is lifted at the roots and there is a greater density effect.
But the best thing about parting your hair is that it doesn't have to be a rigid style. It can be changed at will and play with different looks. What's more, many women change their parting from one side to the other depending on the hairstyle, the moment or the cut they are wearing.
