Sergio Ramos, about eating at McDonalds: “You eat once a month and nothing happens because you have already been taking care of yourself for 29 days”

Being an elite athlete is not something that comes to you from heaven. Although talent is essential, so is dedication, commitment to your work and leading a lifestyle in which food always plays the leading role. But in this matter of nutrition there should not be prohibited foods but rather foods to control and no matter how much you are an internationally famous footballer, your name is Sergio Ramos and you have released your own heartbreak song, we are human and we all have vices. The footballer's is a sauce: mayonnaise.

In 'Charlando Tranquilamente', with Ibai Llanos, Sergio Ramos said that because of his work, he has to “have a very important dietary balance supplement because the body needs those nutrients”, but that does not mean that he does not go off that road and when he does, it is with mayonnaise. “Once a month you eat and nothing happens because you've already been taking care of yourself for 29 days,” he says when he talks about how he and his children love McDonalds, and he indulges in that indulgence that he loves because he takes great care of himself the rest of the time.

He likes it so much that he went so far as to say that “when I was young they called me mayonnaise because I was obsessed with 'mayo'. I love it. I take the hamburger and I turn it around and around, putting it on. It fits between my mustache and beard and I look like Santa Claus.” Now, because of his job, he has to control what he eats, but from time to time he gives himself a tribute and does it without guilt.

I have to say something here and it is that mayonnaise is not bad per se. This sauce, which we can make at home with egg, oil and a little lemon juice, is not bad. It can be made with extra virgin olive oil and the thing is that it is very caloric, but that does not mean it is the devil. It is not, no food is. But what is certain is that if we watch our weight, it will not be something we will eat every day, especially if it is an ultra-processed mayonnaise like the one sold in supermarkets or at McDonald's.

“You have to know how to differentiate between eating, which is enjoying, and feeding yourself, which is what your body needs,” says Ramos, because for him, that moment of enjoyment with his children eating a hamburger is not about feeding or nourishing himself, but about eating with the people you love and enjoying.
