Today we are going to the Canary Islands, where a beautiful town is hidden on the shores of the Atlantic, with a historic center declared an Asset of Cultural Interest. We are talking about Garachico, a picturesque port with a picturesque name, surrounded by volcanoes, palm trees and the most famous natural pools in Tenerife.
What to see in Garachico, Tenerife
Garachico is a town of white, blue, orange, yellow and pink houses facing the sea, which contrast beautifully with the volcanic and black environment that surrounds it. Small squares, alleys, mansions and a beautiful colonial church welcome us to this small corner of paradise.

Freedom Square Kiosk
Everything happens in Plaza de la Libertad, the center of the entire town. There we find a beautiful colonial wooden kiosk, the church of Our Lady of the Angels, which today houses the Science Museum. There is also the very famous church of Santa Ana from 1520 with its bell tower drawing the skyline of Garachico, the Town Hall and the Stone House, with a stone façade that is impossible not to admire.

St. Anne's Church
From there we take the path towards the sea, crossing the Puerta de la Tierra park, which still stands one of the access gates to the old 16th century dock. We will arrive at the Castillo de San Miguel, a Renaissance defensive fortress from the 16th century on the seafront and next to the port. The views are spectacular, with the waves crashing against the rock cliffs and the Garachico rock in the background.

Here comes the best, because the castle impassively guards the greatest attraction in all of Garachico: the El Caletón natural pools. These pools are formed by the island's own geology, creating calderas protected from the waves. When the tide rises it fills them with clean water, allowing a safe dip in the Atlantic.

What to see around the area

If you are in Garachico, there is another beautiful and charming town that is 10 minutes away by car. Icod de los Vinos is an icon of Tenerife, with its 800-year-old dragon tree and its beautiful old town, to walk around and discover craft shops or its butterfly garden. Two getaways for the price of one, and both beautiful.
