If you love the smell of Nivea cream, this perfume could be your new obsession (and it lasts longer)

For months I was convinced I had found my scent. That clean, powdery and welcoming aroma that made me feel that, even though my life is upside down, I smell as if everything was under control. Yes, I'm talking about Nivea's cologne, which replicates exactly the same smell as its legendary blue can. I don't want to completely back down because the hype was real and I stand by it. But time (and continued use) does curious things and what at first is only enveloping, ends up being… too much.

And that's just what happened to me. With more weeks on, reapplications and entire days smelling like “just showered and hydrated”, I began to notice that it was overwhelming me. That the aroma, although clean, took more prominence than I wanted. And then the perfect alternative appeared. The same concept, but refined.

Trends

I'm not exaggerating if I say that Narciso Rodriguez Poudrée smells like Nivea cream. Or, rather, it smells like the idea of Nivea, but passed through a more elegant, more sober and, above all, more bearable filter. It is a powdery perfume, yes, but not flat. It begins with a soft floral opening (white jasmine and Bulgarian rose) that is neither intense nor invasive. Then comes that powdery musk so characteristic of the house, which is where the déjà vu olfactory.

But unlike Nivea's cologne, here the smell does not get into your nose and sticks to you, canceling out the rest of the aromas in the world. He stays at a safe distance. It accompanies, but does not invade.

The secret is at the base

Where Poudrée wins by a landslide is in the background. The vetiver and cedar woods (black and white) give it a very measured warmth, almost invisible, but key. Thanks to that, the perfume does not remain “just showered smell”, but evolves into something more skin-friendly, more intimate. So, while it's powdery and clean, it's also not obvious or literal. And all that is what is missed in the Nivea colony. It's the kind of perfume you smell when you move, when you put on your coat, when you bring your wrist to your face. For those of us who get overwhelmed by fragrances that are too prominent, that is gold.

Narciso Rodriguez

The Nivea cologne paved the way for me. It reminded me that I like powdery, clean, comforting smells. But Narciso Rodriguez Poudrée is the best edited version of that initial idea. More elegant, more balanced and, above all, easier to wear daily without becoming saturated. So the conclusion would be this: would I go back to Nivea? Probably not. Should I stick with Poudrée as a permanent perfume? Without any doubt.
