Makeup, if applied correctly, is a great anti-aging tool, but on the contrary, if we do not use the right products or do not execute the correct technique, the results may not be as positive, especially on mature skin. But if there is one part of the face that seems to age faster than the rest, it is the eyes.
Many women feel quite lost when it comes to applying makeup for their eyes and do not know how to enhance their eyes, especially when the eyelid begins to droop and the eyes look smaller and duller. To help us precisely in this task, we wanted to count on the makeup artist Patricia Carretero, official makeup artist of Perricone MD.
What we most wanted to know is how we should do our eye makeup so that they look bigger and rejuvenated again. Because if we like something a lot, it is highlighting the look and we refuse to leave it in the background (although we are also a lot of suckers, things as they are). According to the makeup artist, it is normal that over the years, the look loses width because the eyelid tends to droop and the shape of the eye changes slightly.
“For this reason, when makeup is applied to the eyes of a mature woman, the ideal is to lift and open, not to recharge. It is better to work with soft shadows that fade upwards and outwards and create a visual sensation of lifting. What we want is to return light and freshness so that the eye appears awake and expressive again,” says Carretero.
It is clear that everything that is an effect push up It will help your eyes a lot, since a drooping eyelid creates the opposite effect. But as the expert indicates, not everything goes in a mature eye. “Many times we think that to define the eye we need very strong lines or very dark colors, but the opposite usually happens: a thick or very marked liner can harden the look and make the eye appear smaller. A fine line is better, very integrated between the eyelashes and with a slight rise in the outer corner, which we can even do with a shadow,” says the makeup artist.

But beyond a drooping eyelid, which we can solve with appropriate makeup, there is something that we notice a lot as we age. We are referring to the fact that the eyes seem to look smaller and with less sparkle. Regarding this, the expert leaves us a trick: “Eyes that need to look big need light. Applying a satin touch to the center of the eyelid and the tear duct completely changes the perception of the eye because it reflects the light and gives that fresh touch to young looks,” Patricia emphasizes. “And it's also a trick that anyone can use on days when your eyes are not so rested,” perfect for solving those days when we wake up looking tired.
Although if there is something that can do absolutely magic and many of us cannot live without it, it is mascara. There's a reason it's one of the most transformative makeup products of all time. So, when we look for an effect antiagingwe cannot forget the importance of eyelashes. As Patricia explains well: “The eyelashes open the look and, therefore, rejuvenate it. You do not have to apply layer upon layer, the ideal is to work on the roots and comb the eyelashes upward, seeking to lengthen them without creating volume. When the eyelashes are lifted, the eye automatically opens and the face appears more rested,” says the expert.
