Lidia Herrero, makeup artist: “Over 50, if you have brown eyes, the most flattering eyeliner is usually chocolate brown. The cream texture is very versatile and easy to apply”

There are makeup products that, beyond trends, accompany us for years and are never missing from our makeup bag. They are those basics that we turn to again and again, although, as time goes by, we realize that some styles no longer flatter us as much as before.

A good example is black eyeliner. We love it and, in addition, we have learned to use it to enhance the look and even create a higher eyelid effect. However, after 50, what we really look for is makeup that flatters us and highlights our natural beauty. Therefore, it is important to choose the color of the eyeliner well as well as the texture.

Brown eyes are the most versatile

If we have to talk about versatile eye colors, browns are undoubtedly the big winners. In general terms, all shades suit them but there are some that are even more flattering for this eye color. As makeup artist Lidia Herrero explained to the publication InStyle, for brown eyes, the use of “eyeliner chocolate brown, bronze, taupe or eggplant” are the best option.

Brown and gray tones help enhance the look and provide an enigmatic touch but without hardening. While bronze or eggplant are perfect for illuminating, opening the look and clarifying the iris. The makeup artist Cristina Lobato explained to us that brown eyes stand out a lot with ““Earth tones, especially reddish ochers, since they enhance the green undertone that brown eyes usually have.”

Any of these shades can become a perfect alternative to the classic black eyeliner, since they define the look without hardening the features and provide a touch of light that helps achieve a fresher and more rejuvenating effect.

Texture matters

Eyeliners in liquid formulas are perfect for defined and very marked lines, something that we usually like a lot when we are young. On the other hand, as you age, the best textures are creamy ones, those that can be worked with and are more natural.

Cream formulas “are very versatile and easy to apply,” explains Herrero because they allow you to define your look without marking folds or wrinkles. The key, according to the expert, is to make blurred outlines that frame but do not harden the features or add years. A creamy texture allows the eyeliner to be better blended and integrated, creating a more natural and elegant effect that is especially flattering after 50. A soft finish that, in many cases, is more flattering than a black eyeliner that is too strong.
