It looks like Switzerland, but it's in Spain and it's better: stone streets, waterfalls hidden in autumn forests and a giant croissant

The mountains of Cadí Moixeró, in the province of Barcelona, hide a fairy-tale town surrounded by forests, waterfalls and streams that seem straight out of Switzerland itself. However, Castellar de n'Hug is Spain and has beaten any other country in everything: its specialty is the giant croissant and, with this, there is no longer any valid comparison.

What to see in Castellar de n'Hug, Barcelona

The path of pines, ash, beech and oak trees that turns reddish in autumn opens our mouths to what we find when we arrive at Castellar de n'Hug. This town, built at the foot of a cliff, takes us through slopes and cobbled streets on a journey to the past, to the 18th century with its thick stone facades with wooden gates and gabled roofs. Here, time has stopped and the tourists have not arrived.

In the heart of the town is the Plaza de la Generalitat, crowned with the impressive church of Santa María de n'Hug, a sober and robust Romanesque mass with a four-arched bell tower. In addition, Castellar de n'Hug also preserves its old laundry and the Shepherd's Museum intact, to learn about the most important trade of the town and of which, to this day, vestiges remain, such as the International Shepherd Dog Competition.

Right next to the museum is the Balços viewpoint, with beautiful panoramic views of the entire Sierra, the Natural Park and, on clear days, to the beginning of the Llobregat valley. Furthermore, at the top of the town there is also the old castle wall, which currently forms part of the façade of a house and is a silent witness to the past watchdog of the town.

Very close to Castellar de n'Hug are the Fuentes de Llobregat, with a very easy walk of just under a kilometer. This path takes you to a stone staircase, where you can go down and see the immensity of its waterfall, especially in the thaw and rainy season. It rises directly from the cliff and is wonderful. Right next to it there are wooden tables so you can have a picnic by the water.
