The new nail trends 2026 are inspired by nineties designs

Posted on 28 August 2026

We begin to review all the beauty trends that will accompany us next season and in the field of nails there is a clear nineties inspiration. Fashion embraces this decade and so do manicures. The sass of the nineties and the excess on the nails is now refined to give way to a more updated and sophisticated manicure.

What we found this year is a different version maintaining but with clear elements that represented the nails of the nineties. The square nails, the French manicure with more presence, pop motifs or the sophisticated red that was not missing in the elegant nails. This decade continues to set the trend and sneaks into the 2026 nail trends, although yes, in a more minimalist version to adapt to the times we are living in, where naturalness and simplicity prevail.

Nineties nails 2026

elegant red

Red never goes out of style but in the nineties it was a very important color in all elegant and sophisticated looks. The hands were embellished with red nails, it was a safe and very feminine bet that illuminated the hands immediately. The color that everyone wanted and there was never a lack of red nail polish in the toiletry bag.

French manicure

The classic French manicure took a turn in the nineties, and from being a simple and minimalist manicure it became much more daring. At that time, the bigger the white stripe, the better, but now it is narrower again although the square nails of those years are maintained.

Futuristic and pointed nails

Sharp, chrome-finished nails also inspire today's manicures. In the 90s there was a great desire for modernity and playing with the different and chrome finishes were the most popular. This season, metallic and blue tones are worn on long, pointed nails.

Nails of different colors

If there was a style in the nineties that flooded all manicures, it was wearing one nail of each color. The tones could match or not, the important thing was the modern touch that was achieved. This season the autumn tones win the game and do not detract from elegance.

Black manicure

Black nails became a highlight in the nineties. They brought modernity and a grunge touch that everyone wanted. Short nails were the version that was seen the most, but this year we will also see long and oval nails. The patent leather effect finish prevails in 2026.
