The craving for something sweet can be satisfied in an incredibly healthy way, with no sugars or refined flours, even if you’re thinking of a brownie, but not just any brownie. And as fans as we may be of this fluffy chocolate cake, we know that in a healthy diet it isn’t ideal to have it every day, but what about its healthy version? Yes, that’s right, we’ve found a recipe to treat yourself with zero guilt, perfect for taking care of ourselves while enjoying our favorite dessert.
The secret of this brownie is that it features an unexpected ingredient: chickpeas, which are going to replace the classic flour. Perhaps at first glance it might surprise you to include this legume that you usually add to spoon-based dishes or hummus in a dessert, but the truth is that it fits perfectly. As a substitute for sugar we will use honey or dates, to naturally sweeten without losing the flavor of the traditional recipe.
Ingredients for our healthy brownie
- 200 grams of cooked chickpeas
- 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
- 4 to 5 dates or 2 tablespoons of honey
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons of peanut butter
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
- Nuts of your choice
The step-by-step of the recipe
We start by preheating the oven to 180°C. Next, we place the cooked and drained chickpeas in a blender or food processor together with the cocoa, the dates or honey, the egg, the peanut butter, the baking powder, the vanilla, and the salt. We blend everything until obtaining a smooth and creamy mixture and once we have it, we pour it all into a bowl and add the nuts we have chosen.
We mix everything well and line a wide container with a little parchment paper, pour the mixture and spread it evenly over the mold with a spatula, and slide our homemade creation into the oven for about 30 minutes. When it’s ready, let it rest for a few minutes and we can start enjoying our brownie. A healthy and delicious recipe, besides being super simple, suitable for kitchen novices that you can make in a short time.
