After a string of rumors that kept giving us clues that sooner rather than later Amaia would return to La Oreja de Van Gogh, the Donostian-based band has finally announced its return to the fold. Its original vocalist returns with more strength than ever 18 years after her departure and the best part is that they have returned to the rehearsal studio: “the emotion we feel today in front of you cannot be explained in words. It has been a year here in San Sebastián, our hideaway in the world, writing new stories and also remembering all the previous ones.”
Amaia, who was part of the group from 1996 to 2007, gave us along with the rest of the band some of the records that completely shaped our biographies when we were girls, hence her return is a full-blown celebration. That said, she will not have all the original members because, although Álvaro, Haritz and Xabi stay, Pablo Benegas (guitarist), no formará esta vez parte de la ecuación, something they wanted to clarify in the statement: “Our dear Pablo, for his part, remains part of the group although this time he will not take the stage with us. After thirty years on the road, he has decided to stop and enjoy more time with his loved ones, in addition to exploring new professional challenges. Until we meet again, we wish him all the best.”

“From our friendship and our passion for music La Oreja de Van Gogh was born, and, with both fully renewed, we began another new stage in our path,” the band concluded. A new project is on the way and we know very well that it undoubtedly comes hand in hand with an album that is already in the works. And indeed, after the statement they shared on social media a video of the group rehearsing with Amaia Montero on October 10.
For the moment we already have the first photo of the four members of the band together, a promising snapshot that they have already shared on their X account, filled with nostalgia and future new songs. The pop group of our lives is back on the road and we are eager to know more details about this new and promising phase.
